Fairs, Floats and Remembering

Posted Sep 17 at 2 PM

This was a fantastic weekend for the campaign. We were all over the district from Somers to Windsor, to Enfield to Windsor Locks.  We also took time to remember victims of 9/11.

Thursday marked the 7th year since the tragedies of 9/11. I attended two events. The first, in Enfield, included a parade from JFK Middle School to Weymouth Rd followed by the Enfield Fire Departments 9/11 Memorial Garden dedication. The other was held at the Suffield Volunteer Ambulance Association. The Ambulance Association building is the home to the traveling “Connecticut Remembers” 9/11 memorial exhibit. Suffield will be hosting the exhibit through the end of September and is a touching reminder of how this country came together in the days and weeks following the tragedy and the role so many Connecticut citizens played in the recovery.  Thursday night continued with me stopping into the Enfield Planning and Zoning meeting concerning the proposed supportive housing project in Thompsonville and ended at the Four Town Fair in Somers.

Friday was an upbeat night at the Somers Four Town Fair. Although it was rainy, spirits were high. I tried to shake every wet hand out there while getting soaked myself. The fair was full of young people eager to enjoy their Friday evening despite the weather; it looked as if most accomplished their goal.

Saturday started off with the Four Town Fair Parade. I was met at our meeting spot before the parade by about 50 supporters. The support was unbelievable! I was joined by a sea of people in “George Colli for State Senate” T-shirts and signs. The enthusiasm our group showed carried into the crowd of thousands  lining the parade route.  Our Democratic team consisted of Congressman Joe Courtney, Comptroller Nancy Wyman, Treasurer Denise Nappier, Rep.Karen Jarmoc, Rep. Kathy Tallarita, Rep. Ted Graziani, State Senator Gary LeBeau and State Rep. candidate Arlene Avery as well as a number of Somers Town Committee members.  I tried to shake every hand from Main St. to the fairgrounds and I think I came close.  A special thanks goes out to Sarah Camerota of Somers who did an incredible job organizing the crew.

After the parade I shot over to Windsor and was there for the opening of the Windsor Democratic Town Committee’s Headquarters. I went with Peggy Sayers to the Concert on the Green. I met so many new people and ran into a few who had known my family for generations. I could really feel some strong support in Windsor and thank Leo, Willa and Florence for spending the time with me. Saturday night was a gorgeous late summer night at the Somers fair with a packed crowd.

Sunday morning, I made it over to the soggy Windsor Locks v. Enfield youth football game at Windsor Locks High School. It was great to speak to all the “Football Moms and Dads” and was really impressed with the level of competition on both sidelines. It was encouraging to see how receptive people were to me walking around.  While many of these folks are getting hit hard in these tough times, they still have great hope for their children’s future. It was really good to hear their perspective on the district and what needs to be done to help out working families.

I am working hard to meet the people of the 7th District and show them that I am the right candidate to vote for on November 4th.  I could definitely feel from the people I spoke with, and all the hands I shook, that this campaign is really gaining some strong momentum.  I need your help over the next 48 days in spreading our message of positive, prosperous change for North Central Connecticut. If each one of you could let ten friends know about my campaign and ask them to vote for me then we will be one step closer to bringing our vision for the future of the 7th District to Hartford.

Thank you.

George
